I heard many rumors about a new handheld model and successor of the psp. Is it true? I really want to know because i don't want to waste my savings in a console that is about to be replaced in a year or less.

If you want to buy a PSP, buy it at best buy. Get a two year warranty($39.99) that way if a new version comes out in a year or so, return the PSP and get the new version.

I really doubt SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment) is going to release a new version of the PSP. Aside from how poorly Sony was doing last year, SCE lost incredible amounts of money. Right now, they're putting everything they have into the Playstation 3, and trying to promote Blu-ray.

In short, they just can't afford the R&D, testing, and manufacturing costs right now. Sony's SCE division may even pull out of hardware developement, if the Playstation 3 flops.

Buy one now, and pay $30 for 1 more year (so the total is 2 years), then just return the old one and get a new one when they release.
