why doesnt spongbob have a pet seahorse? wouldnt that make more sense than a pet snail that meows????

you're right it would. By the way he did have a seahorse named Mystery for one episode. He also had a pet worm when Gary was going after the cookie in patricks pocket.

He did have one for one episode, Mystery aka Debbie the SeaHorse,
but he got rid of her.
The snail concept is just what they're sticking to, alot of people (including myself) love Gary the snail. Also, it's a bit easier for them, because Tom Kenny voices both Spongebob and Gary, it lowers their costs on paying more voice actors.

*sighs* I'm ashamed that I can answer this but, there was an episode where Spongebob had a pet seahorse but Mr. Krabs made him get rid of it because he said it would be too wild.
