I'm not sure exactly what "whine" you are referring to but the one I know about is equal pay for equal work.

If you were doing exactly the same job as a woman, were as qualified as the woman, same amount experience etc wouldn't it tick you off if she made more than you? I mean why should she if you are doing the same job. It wouldn't be fair and equitable.

So the big deal isn't the 20 cents, it's the message that even though a woman does the same job as a man, she's not WORTH as much as a man and that my friend just ain't right.

I hope that clears up for you what the issue really is. :)

Oppressed? Maybe not in the developed countries, where women' rights are well recognized. Although, I really do find the context you used very strange. So, if you do use that example, then I'd have to say that even though I am feminist, women aren't being oppressed there. They are oppressed in a different way, in a different place.

You know....you DO have a valid point. Women today have not much left to bemoan: they have "girl power" in just about every American workplace facet. Some ladies are enjoying HUGE paychecks in the political and entertainment fields (something totally unheard of 40 years ago).

Women still feel powerless??? The need to reality check back in history: check out the whopping history making court victories they got in areas of abortion, right to vote and divorce settlements. Yes, it's very true: they get the goldmine; guys get the shaft.

And while we're on the subject, let's go back to that "girl power" thing in regards to American politics. The empowered ladies in elected office well have in hand made some smaller pro-female victories, like "political correctness" and "sexual harrassment"....some hold state governor's office--and we may well see a serious female Presidential candidate (God, I hope it's NOT true.......)....that's all we need: another Clinton in the White House!!!!

I don't find that to be true. In my workplace we are all paid equally based on our position. Most of the leads and supervisors ARE women. Some men have a problem with it but if they do then they don't last long there.

firstly its the principle behind it... WHY are women getting 20c less? and what else are they getting less in the work place? Unfortunately with that 20c less also comes less respect, less opportunities etc etc...

But more worrying is the oppression of women in third world, under priviledged countries where women still cant get an education etc etc.

Women are taking over the world. First it was suffrage, then they started making babies...and who says men can't! I mean, Arnold did it in that one movie!

Yeah, I mean, ever since they started demanding treatment as "equals" these rude men don't hold doors open for them. The nerve!

They're not. These days, it's women on top and that's OK by me.
