Assuming you meant "thrash rock music", my answer is no: it's NOT in so much an art form as it defintely is a musical form of emotional expression.

Rock Music really did, all it's sub-genres notwithstanding, came well into art during the mid-60s all the way up into the mid/late 80s. All one has to do is hear the songs of the time: note how each band had a unique resonance of sound. Also, note the studio techno work in how the songs were put together. And alas, look at the album jacket artwork: each LP jacket today can be hung on the wall as art.

Sad today's music doesn't come near such.

In some cases, yes - Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Radiohead, people like that, because they try to say something deeper, something meaningful, something to inspire others to think and look at life differently. There is still a lot of such bands, but nowhere near the mainstream charts & media - try jambands instead.
In other cases, no - Madonna, Britney, all rap, most of emo, current punk & metal... everything is done by cookie cutters - the proper clothes, the proper guitars, words, music... everything is shallow and a meaningless pile of cliches intended to sell and make a quick buck, with as little origginality as humanly possible.
So the first group sort of paints Mona Lisas and Guernicas, while the second group patches together the cover page for National Enquirer, in a nutshell.

you write out melodies.....

my definition of art is what created by someone, the form that can be sensed by eyes,ears,skin,..including your soul.
..
hahaha..
a bit too much at the end i guess..

what can be sensed makes us react.
art makes me react.
rock reacts me more.
