you both have points in your favor and i believe that some private schools are better than some public schools and the other way around also...i recently discovered that some (if not all) private schools do not require any training to teach the childred and in fact i know a teacher in particular who has absolutly no college experience at all in any field whatsoever and now she is the vice principal of the school and i also know a girl who goes to a private school who is dumber than a box of hair...the point is not all private schools are good just like not all public schools are bad...either way i hope you work it out and im glad the two of you are concerned about your kids more parents should be....good luck

I Would Choose Private School I'm Christan But I Will Never Imagine Either Going To A Private School Also Public School is Free And There Are Less Rules At Private You Have To Follow Many Rules And Sometimes You Just Have To Chill And Cut A Little Slack So I Would Go With Public

Sorry this turned out so long.
Well, I'll give you my two cents and this is coming from a college student and I was for the most part always a straight A type student, and I've experienced both forms of schooling on and off. 4th, 8th, and 10th were all my years in private schools and the rest I'd spent in public. Now from my personal experience, I saw that the teachers in private and public are about the same (some good and some bad), except you will usually get better ratios of students to teachers and harder curriculum's (public school was too easy IMO, private school was more challenging), and on average private school teacher will tend to care a little more and maybe this is because they have not had to deal with punk *** students all the time, thats my guess there. However, if you do decide to go with the private over public school route make sure you don't do it as my parents did and go on and off it will not work especially when one is typically more fun than the other (fun as a result of freedom of course). What's more in my 8th and 10th grade years I turned rebellious because I was being pushed to go to private against my will and did poorly because of it (even though my 9th 11th n 12th grade gpa was 92, during 10th n 8th it was around 75).
Summary of my personal experience in an NY setting
Private: 2 bad I hadn't started and end with it is all I have 2 say, but I'm about getting my work done b4 play many students hate the schools, good majorities
safer
better curriculum's
average teachers
less fights/drugs
Public: Although it was fun and all it really wasn't the best choose I think :/
a ton of assholes to deal with
brain dead curriculum's
fights and drugs are easy 2 come by

Having taught in several different private schools, let me be the first to advise you NOT to put your kids into private school.
They are generally accountable to no one.
You will pay a lot and therefore, you will think that you are getting a great education for your kids.
But consider this: Many private schools do not require the teachers to be certified, much less to have completed a college degree.
Since public tax monies do not fund private schools, discipline problems will run rampant through the school. Why? Because expelling a student means losing precious tuition. Everything will be done to ensure that NO CHILD gets expelled.
It is no less violent in a private school, and there are no resources (such as campus security or counselors) for when violence is threatened.
You will pay for tuition and books and a supply fee... it still will not be enough to provide all the tools necessary to teach a wide variety of learning styles... Money (lack of) will be a constant issue and driving force behind all decisions.
This is how most private schools are in Texas. If you live in another state, you may or may not fare better. If you are dead set against public school, I would advise home schooling... there are some great homeschool organizations that allow your kids to play team sports and other "socializing" events.
If you go with a private school... ask who their accrediting agency is. Ask if all the teachers are state certified. Ask what their discipline policy is. And take your children seriously when they say they are being bullied. Caveat Emptor.

We are contemplating enrolling our son in a private school too. The public school systems are failing our children today. Between government censorship, lack of funding, 35+ kids per teacher...etc, kids aren't even learning basic skills in school any more (I don't know how many I see that can't do basic math and slaughter the English language)
If your boyfriend is so concerned about your child(ren) needing real world experience, why not enroll them into after school activities? They could join sports, dance, YMCA programs...etc, where they would deal with people outside the private school setting and face the "out side world" so to speak. (The violence levels in these places are no real higher than they would be inside the private school setting) Their actual "education" could then remain a quality one, while he can rest easy knowing they are not being shielded from the real world.

My kids went to public school for the very reasons your boyfriend gave and believe me, I would not back down from my beliefs. That is until last year... I took a job as the bookkeeper for a large private Christian school and I could not believe the difference. First of all, the teachers absolutely loved the children in their classes and wanted to see them succeed as much as their parents! It was a huge sacrifice for them to teach there as they didn't make anywhere near what the teachers do in a public schools. Also, the private school children were about a year and a half ahead of the public schools - I was amazed!
I'm telling you - if I could do it over again, I would do anything to put my kids in a school like the one I worked at last year!

I've been to both private and public schools. I was in a private school from Kindergarden untill 5th grade, and from 6th to 9th (now) a public school. I love all of the schools I have been to, and all gave me a good education.
My advice is to research, research, and research! After this you may find that the private school you would like your children to attened may not be such a good thing, for example, it may not have the extracuriculars you want, or the teachers education may not be up to your standards or anything else. But then again, you may find that the private school is perfect for your children and worth the money.
My suggestion would be to send your children to private school while they are still young, then ask them (when they're older) if they would like to transfer to public school or if you feel that there education isn't up to want you want.
Honestly, now that I'm in highschool, i wish that I could go back to private school to see the differences in education. But I would never trade in the experiences I've had in all the schools I've been to, private or public, for anything.
Good Luck =]]

I wouldn't take it for granted that private school would give your a child a better education. The public school my daughters go to is academically rigorous, it's the top school in our district. A big part of the school's success is the parent involvment.
This year my daughter's friend left her private school to attend public for the first time. Her mother was very upset to learn that when the school tested her she was below grade average. The private school doesn't have the same standards a regular public school is held up to.

I feel the education is better in Public schools.
But who needs better education now a days.
Now we need more smarter people and with knowledge & shortcuts to achieve professional goals faster.
In these points Private schools are very good and effective.
If you want a Newton or Eisntine put them in Public
If you want Bill Gates or LN Mittal put them in Private.

I hated public school. I've never been to private school. But I'm finishing senior high through online schooling now and like it better. I'd say your kids are better in private school.
