It means that they are an attention seeker. They make a big deal out of everything, or something that is seen as a minor issue, hense the name drama queen. It's a casual term and is normally used as a joke. Its not something to get offended by, but rather makes you re-evaluate your behaviour.

Drama Queen is another way of describing someone who over acts when responding to a question or a situation. They go overboard so to speak...make a big deal over a small thing or just go on and on and on on a subject or reply. Picture an actress with the back of her hand against her forehead going "woe is me!" LOL Being melodramatic.

If someone is telling you to reevaluate your behavior in THAT way (by telling you, particularly a guy, that he is a drama queen),..... ummm, YEAH, that is offensive.

It's derogatory, negative. It means that person thinks you over-react. This may either be true or not.

It can be used jokingly among knowing and teasing friends or used harshly by enemies to devalue the feelings of those they do not like.

The person gets highly emotional to the point of making a scene to get attention.
