When we were last in Iowa we visited the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville.
It is very cool, just as it was in the film.
The base ball pitch, corn fields surrounding, seating and the house.
Just a pity Kevin Costner isn't there!
Also (if your a fan of the Duke), the birthplace of John Wayne is open to the public in Winterset.
Winterset is located in Madison County (south west of Des Moines)
While your there you can visit the covered bridges.
They featured in the Clint Eastwood/Meryl Streep film "Bridges of Madison County".

This is a great site, listing all odd attractions in a state,
For example, at:
Centerville: World's Largest Town Square
Britt: Hobo Museum
Council Bluffs: Largest Revolving Jail in the US
Exira: Plow in the Tree
Waukon: House of Clocks

The capital, Des Moines is a great city, with plenty of attractions.
I always like to visit the state capitols and see the Governor Mansions.

Have fun, Iowa is a surprising state!
