Okay, I'm just going to make this short and sweet. Can a person change themselves for the better if they really work on it? I know the sayings, "just be yourself," and "to thine own self be true." But what if you don't like who you really are; and for the most part neither does anybody else? Could you look deep inside yourself and change the way you think, believe and feel?
I just want to finally be happy with who I am.

Oh, yes. Life should be a constant striving towards improvement, and it's only natural. After all, most of us are out of diapers, speaking a language and even typing here on Yahoo! Answers.

You can change yourself. Decide on what you want to be, then work on being that person. Cut out negative chatter in your head that says "some things never change."

You are in control of your mouth and your mind. You can be nice to people, you can be nice to yourself, you can learn new ways of thinking and be happy.

Be very careful, though, to acknowlege the good things you do already, and realize the good changes you have made. Some people have a tendency to be very down on themselves, and never notice what's good about their lives. Being grateful for what you've got is an important part of being happy.

Good luck!

Depends. For you, yes. The first indication that you are capable of change is that you RECOGNIZE that there are things about yourself that you do not like. If you know what those things are then the next step is to find out what you need to do to improve yourself so that you can work on it.
It's the people who are oblivious to their own worthlessness that are hopeless cases. You are not one of them, so ... no worries.
And stop listening so much to what other people say and be sure that the voice you really are listening to and value the most is your own! :)

Read Good Books
i dont mean only self help books but books of great authors like tolstoy and john grisham, it will open ur mind and may change ur perspective and closer u will be in discovering urself, which is the basis for all future improvements. all other personality techniques r useless in longterm(like marriage or child rearing) .if u change ur perspective ur character gradually change and that is what is important.

If you surround yourself with people who you admire, then you're bound to gradually change for the better.

I dunno. that's all I can think of.
