Scenario: An abnormally strong solar flare from the suns surface has caused an electrical surge and destruction of all power plants and machiney. Electricity is gone and it would take years to rebuild. What would it be like? (Aware it is unlikely, just pretend.)

If you are talking total failure of all machines using electricity, about 5,000 airplanes would plummet from the sky, carrying about 200,000 people to almost instant death. All the aged, infirm and infants on any kind of life support would perish within the day. Within the day, all food would disappear from all grocery stores. All governments in the developed nations collapse, down to the village level and feudal societies begin to form around the most ruthless of the plunderers. Within the week, two at the outside, cannibalism begins in all major cities. Survival rates will be inversely proportional to population densities.

Undeveloped countries will be affected the least as their access to electricity is almost non-existent to begin with.

It would mean the deaths of thousands of people. Think about it. All of a sudden no elecricity? Millions of car accidents, in hospitals everywhere in the world people will die from lack of modern technology. Mass productions of vaccines and medications would cease to exist. People in the heavily populated cities would resort to violence when lack of food become available. Not to mentions the thousands of people who would be stranded in the middle of our oceans with no guidance systems. And wouldn't the "electrical surge" cause fires? It would be hell on earth! The only people who wouldn't be affected would be the third world countries or those living on farms etc. that can support and feed themselves.

Well, in many parts of India and similar third world countries, it is not a big deal and life will go on! People fetch water by hand from distance, use oil expelled from seeds in anoil mill run by bullocks to light the home. People cook using fire wood or coal. Wash clothes by beating them manually on a stone near a stream. Climb several floors and sleep in the open if needed.

We would survive! We would live like people did in the 1800's for roughly 8months then society would change to 'crank power', that is electric that is made from 'cranking/turning' something...like a 'crank' flashlight that gives off light...alternatives would be found in less than a year that would be readily available to all. Also I thing there would be a HUGE popluation growth (lots of sex) during this darkness.

well for some guys like me,an amateur inventor, experimenter would probably take initiatives in producing our own electric power source. It could be from the things left undamaged by the "flare" .Then people smarter than me starts converting things to run on just about anything not electrical, then things would be constantly discovered and soon be realized that things could be as they are even without electricity if only we had not been enslaved to making things to be run only by electricity.

No problem for the Third World countries! Many of them are already used to this situation.

Still some "Big Powers" are hypocritically against the use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Shame on them!

Move technolgy back to the year 1890. Not that far really. Still we would have better gas power engines as the basic ones only use a spark coil.
Back when men were men, women were women and little furry creatures were still little furry creatures.
