Because it creates the appearance that the price is almost 1 cent cheaper than it actually is. It was more affective probably when only a few service stations did it. Now that everybody does it, it doesn't matter.

so that when you buy 1 gallon a 2.099 you actually pay 2.10 because you round up. The same reason that most places price thing 599.99 because unconsciously you will remember that is is 500 and some dollars not 600 like it really is. It makes it look cheaper than it acutally is.

they don't do that in Canada...only in the states... In Canada it may be 75.5 or 75.3 per liter or what ever price they put on it.

With 3.8 liters to the gallon, when our gas is over $1.00/liter even with the exchange rate your gas is less expensive. at 75.5 cdn that is $2.86 9/10 per gal and with the exchange it is about $2.40 per gal.

i have no clue ! i wonder that my self. i would say though it might be to get the absolutely most money they can.
