I was thinking of majoring in Graphic Design. During my junior I wanted to study abroad in England. What would be a good school to attend with a Graphic Design major? Or should I just forget the study abroad idea?

Well i study in England and its great. The system is a little different. Depeneding on where you go, usually it is only 3 yeasr for university here. The central system is www.UCAS.com that it where you can look up courses that are avaliable at universities throughout the country. I wouldnt forget the study abroad thing, its a great way to visit other places that you might not have the chance to visit otherwise! im doing it and i plan on trying to go to japan next!

Bear in mind that UK universities work in a slightly different way to those in the US. We don't study a whole range of different things; we study one named subject (or, occasionally, two). So if you came over to study Graphic Design, it wouldn't be as a 'major' - you'd be studying various aspects of Graphic Design, and nothing else. I don't mean this to put you off; actually, if you want to study Graphic Design then it seems to me a good way of going about it; it's just worth being aware of the differences.

On my Fine Art course there was a girl from the US who came over for a year and had a great time, and I definitely think it's a good idea to spend a year abroad if you can; it really gives you a new perspective. Sorry, I don't know off the top of my head which unis are best at the subject, but as the previous answerer suggested, have a look at ucas and find out who offers it, and then research them a bit more.

Other factors to take into account are:

Some parts of the country are more expensive than others in terms of cost of living (i.e. particularly London), so think about your budget.

It's also worth thinking about what you want in terms of setting - a small university or a large one? One based in the city or the country? By the sea?

In terms of accommodation, most universities will accommodate all international students, but check this out to be sure!

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!

Hi Smiley2006chic,

The other 2 posters had given them their own advice but I hope I could still be of help to you.

You could check out this link for "graphic design study abroad in England" from StudyAbroadDirectory.com: http://www.studyabroaddirectory.com/listings.cfm/countryID/27/degprogID/51
The said directory is from GoAbroad.com, a trusted and comprehensive authority in International Education directories. It has at some extent made verifications of the companies listed here(look for the check+ or check++ light green logo) and that some also has comments coming from past participants of the study abroad program(check for the "speaking" light blue icon)

Hope this helps.
Good Luck :)

No, you don't forget about study abroad!

Try Alta Scuola Politecnica, or Politecnico di Milano, or Politecnico di Torino in Italy. They have started just recently with "internationalization" of their universities - giving very good scholarships to foreign students.

Please visit the below links as you will find very useful information about the above universities that lecture in English as well as in the local, Italian language.
