Yes, the above responses are true. Its version 4 of PHP scripting language software, released as a Free Software on GPL. Its used as a server side script alongwith Apache. If you got an apache running and want to check whether your apache supports php, all you need to do is to write a simple php file index.php with contents
If your webserver software supports php, then you get a different output.

Its a thrilling experience to work with Apache, PHP on GNU Linux environment.

If you want to learn database programming, then wow, you can even have an application like *yahoo answers*, up and running soon.

Almost all wiki applications use PHP and a database like MySQL or PostgreSQL.

its open source web based scripting language.
