No. She was hired to trick Monk into thinking his wife was still alive so a former colleague of the real Mrs. Monk could get some incriminating files from Mr. Monk.

RedBirdy is correct. It was a very sad episode to me. It seemed as if he had to lose her all over again. I know the show is a comedy and I like it, but I found that very sad.
