I came home to go on my laptop and had difficulty connecting through my wireless. The connection continually kicked me off the Internet each time I tried to use the WWW.

My connection to the router has always been pretty good up until tonite. I tried connecting to the Internet tonite and the computer informed I was not connected to my router, yet still had intermitent access to the Web. My connection was never a secured wireless network, yet tonite it is all of a sudden a security-enabled wireless network.

Was my internet connection hijacked? If so, how can I regain authority over it? If not, what exactly is going on and how can I remedy my situation? Thanks

If its a Linksys brand router, have it hooked up to your home pc, than you can go to their website and download Linksys Easy Link Advisor. After that you can find out the password for your wireless network, log in and get a different one. It might seem a little bit complicated but the program will help. Hopefully that person won't be able block u out from your connection or use it.

Just try resetting the router to factory defaults. You'll have to go in and reprogram it but that would make sure it's not hijacked anymore. There should be a button on the back to reset it. Prgram it through a cable until you set a password. Also, only allow access by MAC address, its an easy way to secure wireless connections. Only the computers you say are ok are allowed to use the wireless.

Or you could just power reset it. maybe that's all it needs.

If it is a wireless router someone else may access it if not firewalled properly. But they access your internet account through the router. the router itself cant be damaged by this. If it's not wiress then you just have a hardware prob

Don't bother with the mac address setting it's a waist of time and will only slow you down!!!
