I worked at Wendy's and then a hostess in a couple restaurants. I did phone work (surveys, phone sales, collection donations) - in fact this is kind of my fall back career, since I am really good at it. I worked for Kelly Services - that's a great way to get experience and learn computer skills.

When I started to work for myself as a freelance graphic designer I worked for free for folks so that I had something to put into my portfolio, in addition to creating my own materials (card, web site, etc.). At that level people want to see results more than anything else.

Peace!

Long ago I worked in a dime store during high school and then a bit of business school and off to a boring job. They hired me because I had shown I was responsible, etc etc. Now I know they hired me like any other smuck that had no education because it was a dead end boring boring boring job. Get all the education you want and while you're in college volunteer in a couple of community minded activities or in something that is in your career line. Get at least B's with a few A's and you will be on your way to a good job. Do pick an education that will end you up in an area that has jobs available. You may have to take a job that offers a bit less to get on the job experience and then keep your eyes and ears open and try for more. You will end up with a nice life, a nice car, travel, run around with people who have a bit more on the ball and much nicer stuff. Is this more than you wanted to know?

Fast Food - 2 years
Casino Dealer - 2 years
Victoria's Secret - 7 months
Door to Door Salesman - 3 months
Cracker Barrel - 2 months
Bath and Body Works - 1 month
Radio Shack - 6 months

So, all in all, I've learned how to cook, deal blackjack, fold panties, sell books, pour coffee, what to buy my future wife, and how a component cable works.

I'm currently happily unemployed, thank you very much.
