I had it confirmed by a number of eyewitnesses that camels can indeed swim.

At least the Dromedaries (Camelus dromedarius) can, and we can probably assume that the Bactrians (Camelus bactrianus)can, too. (One bump in a D two bumps in a B, that's how I always remember that).

How did I find so many eyewitnesses, you ask? It turns out camel racing is a huge sport in some Arab countries and - get this - in Australia.

Yes but they dont get much opportunity. All breathing animals can swim.

Wouldn't they float? I mean, with all that stuff in their humps, it seems like they would just float right up to the top anyway.

yes, they dont get much practice usually, but they can if needed
