Set them up. Tell only a certain number of coworkers that you leave your valuables in your desk in a specific place, and that you are usually away from your desk for lunch between say 12-1pm. Then spring a trap on them. Also, your employer should have security cameras located in your area. If they do, inform a supervisor of any concerns you have regarding thefts. If you have specific knowledge as to what was taken and when, they can re-wind the security video tape & find out who the thief is. If you have security personnel, inform them, too, so they can be aware of your potential problem.

Set a BOOBY TRAP! You could plant something with your initials scratched in an inconspicuous place that you would only know. If it is food, plant some ex-lax in the food, and watch the show! Get your own silent revenge. Ha Ha
Maybe hide and watch? Put a stinky bomb (get it at the gag store) in the object, when they open it they will get a surprise!! They have these gadgets that go inside a medicine cabinet or drawer (child safety device) that blares a loud noise when disturbed, that would be funny!! That will teach them...With some thought and careful planning you can catch the culprit!!!! Out smart them!!

It depends what they are stealing.
Food: try the classic chocolate x-lax trap.
Medicine: replace drugs with immodium (DON'T FORGET). and leave in regular place.
Money: Why in god's name is your money where anyone else can get to it? If your money is stolen you deserve to loose it.
If it is your Till: Get management approval to set only one person per drawer. Then stick to it.
Newspapers and Magazines: don't bring them anymore.
Depersonalize your space (assuming you have one) remove all pictures, non-business notes, cartoons, etc. A stark area is not a friendly area and therefore forbidding to the interloper.
Remember: you can't buy friends but the best way to keep the ones you have is to buy donuts.

At office depot they sell an invisible marker along with a special flashlight the exposes the ink left by the marker. Put your initials on your stapler or calculator and check them later.
