Play games within a window on windows xp?

My Sims games and some other games I used to play would open up in windows instead of full screen, it would make it easier for me to play the game while i was doing other things. Now they only open in full screen, I've tried checking the properties on the icons and haven't gotten that to work any help please? I've also checked the ingame options

This is strange to but I think I get what you are saying. Now I do not know how I got it back up to full screen/ or window but I remember hitting different combinations like

shift + alt,

shift + delete,

alt + delete,

alt + shift

alt + shift + delete

also add "Enter" in to the combinations

until it came up again into full screen/ or just a window so keep hitting until it goes down.
