i have a flowmaster 40 series muffler

depending on how short you cut you should change both sound and performance Watch it though! The law-dogs say the pipe ends have to at least get the exhaust out from under the car. too short and your car will be reject for inspections due to the possibility of exhaust gasses being released in such a way as to possibly allow those gasses to get into the car. (And that is called carbon monoxide poisoning).

The sound and performance might change, but not enough to justify the trouble (unless the piece removed was severly dented or kinked) What you might do with the shorter pipe is to direct the exhaust under the car where it could find a way to the interior and poison you with conbon monoxide.

yeah should change the sound i had a flowmaster on my 01 dakota sounded great but had to trade the truck for better gas mileage veh
