What does it mean? Is it good or bad?

To answer iceball, the cloaca is the "all purpose" opening in turtles. The feces (poop), urine and penis' or eggs come out of it. Males turtles will sometimes "flash" their penis but it should go back in with no problem. If it doesn't go back in then there is a prolapse and get the turtle to a vet that treats turtles.

If it's the intestine prolapsed, get it to the vet. Poor low fiber diets can cause this and also egg binding in mature females. Egg binding can cause death if not treated by vet.

It sounds like a male turtle with a penile prolapse. They just do this sometimes. I had a African sideneck and a spiny softshell that would do this occassionally.

Sometimes it's caused by somthing large in the intestinal tract - maybe he swallowed a bit of aquarium gravel. I swore mine were just "flashing". It's not bad as long as it corrects itself. You should isolate him if there are other turtles in the tank with him. Sometimes they will bite --Ouch!!!
