Not only is it failing, parenting is becoming obsolete. Too many laws keeping us from being able to discipline our own children, everything costs too much so BOTH parents have to work to pay bills...leaving a lot of kids home alone or with strangers for most of the day, divorce is at 50% so half the households with kids only have one parent in it to begin with...I'm thankful my kids are grown now.

I think it is harder to be a good parent in the 21st century than any of our previous centuries-why? because women's lib has made it virtually impossible to be the "supermom", and the pressure of "doing it all" has taken a toll on the children, mothers and marriages. That being said, I do not believe parenting is "failing" in the US, but has become more difficult since it is virtually impossible for middle class America to raise a family without the mother working full time. There is also now at least 2 decades of "stay at home dad's" because they became the Mr. Mom for whatever reason, usually that "mom" was the executive and dad had the lower paying position. In the past 20 years, I believe parents have had a lot of hardships to overcome in the US- 9/11, downsizing of every major company in America causing millions of jobs lost, higher cost of living with take home wages falling and not even keeping up with inflation, and the insane commercialism that has made every child in America wanting more than any other generation.

Yes, it seems that todays parents want to put the blame on everything else when their kids go wrong. They play the blame game. He did it because he saw it on (TV, video game, music video) whatever be their parents and censor what they come in contact with don't let them lose on the world and then blame society. By the way there's no less or more perverts than there was when I was a kid, it just plastered all over the place now. Its talked about now whereas when we were young it was kind of kept quiet.

Just going to be 20 yrs of kids who can't do anything and society will slowly crumble as the machines break down with no one to fix them.

It's a lot different now than when I was a kid. We were taught to show respect to our elders. We walked or rode our bikes to school, or where ever. Kids now get a ride everywhere. (Unfortunately theirs too many sick perverts to worry about.)

I think parents depend on schools to help teach their children what is acceptable and what is not and I think that's wrong, because all kids learn at school is how to be mean, hateful, violent, and cruel, among other things. You have to teach your children morals at home and not try to lay it off on others to do it for you.
