She probably is used to routine and if your house is normally quiet, than she would't be used to whole groups of people coming over at once. I suggest that you have one friend over at a time to get her used to them, or put her in a place she feels safe away from your friends when they come. Maybe shes a one person cat or just not sociable.

Hi Cassie,

Don't be alarmed by this behaviour. I had a cat, who I happened to name Purrkins do the same thing. She loved me but was hateful to anyone else who came into her house, which is the understatement of the century. To a degree it may be territory issues and the cat knowing she RULES and runs the house. However, like people, each cat has an individual personality and they either like you or they don't. If you choose to correct the behaviour have a small squirt bottle filled with WATER ONLY and have it handy. Only squirt the cat once, immediately while in the act of hissing or biting not afterwards. I hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,

Alice H.

How old is your cat? The older your cat is, the least likely she will be able to 'unlearn' this behavior.

It can depend on the breed somewhat, but it sounds like your cat was not socialized properly when she was a kitten. In other words, she was a bit 'sheltered', so she views the unknown as a threat.

(Domesticated) cats are mostly creatures of habit, and thrive in a predictable environment.
