i guess i used to be kinda scared of my parents trying to talk to me about sex and i thought it would be heaps awkward. Well i used to be scared, im not anymore because im now 16 and we havent had it yet, which probably means it isnt eva gonna happen. I come from a catholic family, and im homeschooled (with part time education at school coz im almost finished school). Maybe my parents think im neva gonna find out about it or something until im married.... but if so they're dumber than i thought. I know they have several books on sex and teens but they've neva ever talked to me about sex. is it coz theyre completely gutless or what? why didnt they tell me about it?

no i dont have attitude problems, and if i did wouldnt that be a good reason to tell me, after all if i was all into rebelion n stuff wouldnt i be more likely to wanna have sex? I dont believe in having sex before getting married, but they never told me that...
the only reason i refer to my parents as gutless is because quite frankly: THEY ARE. you cant have a proper conversation with either of them about anything slightly embarrassing like even growing ya pubes... i mean that obviously happened a long time ago for me... but when it happened i didn't know what was going on.... i didnt even think it was normal... BECAUSE THEY NEVER TOLD ME

Davo,

You may find this hard to believe, but then again, it may make all to much sense and you'll think I'm an idiot for stating the obvious:

Your parents... *gasp* are .... .... human! *cries in shock are heard*

Your parents sound like they care deeply about you, but sex is an issue that most people deal with their whole lives without understanding it for themselves, much less having to teach someone else about it.

Sex is such a deeply emotional and spiritual issue that they probably lack self-confidence concerning the matter. Obviously, they know the basics or you'd never have been born. But, they probably feel like anything they say will be condescending at best and foolish at worst.

If you have questions about sex, just ask them. If you approach the subject with them, you might startle them into have the backbone they currently seem to lack.

Finally, if you're having issues you really need to talk about but aren't comfortable bringing the subject up with your parents, call

The answer may have less to do with them and more to do with YOU. Honestly, there is no way to say from the information you provide here. How have they been about teaching you other things? Are they comfortable with sex? Do you have attitude problems? Calling them "gutless" suggests that you might. I'll tell you one thing: they are probably not as clueless as you think. You seem to think you know an awful lot already. Perhaps they figured this out on their own, and that is why they didn't bother to talk to you. No sense in having an "embarrassing" conversation with someone who already "knows it all."

Give your parents a break, it's not an easy subject to just start up. Maybe your parents are afraid that you will want to start expermenting with what you have been taught. But if you want to know, ask your father if the two of you could talk. Tell him, when he's more comfortable and ready, that you would like to have your "sex talk".
