The first thing you will notice is the belly turns pink. THEN you will notice the eyes and the rest of the body going grey/blue in color. To help get a complete shed, bump up the humidity to 60-65%. Also a nice warm 20 min soak each day during shedding will help. The whiteness could be left over skin from the last shed. And don't believe what people say about a ball going off feed when in shed. Mine has never refused even while fully blue. Obviosly some will but, at least try and see first!

Theres nothing to worry about like all snakes the ball python starts off by having its eyes turn a milky white color and their skin begins slowly peeling away starting from their head during such time they will instinctivly lash at any movement they can "smell" but b4 they go totally blind put a small twisted piece of rough wood something that lays at an angle with space enough on the underside so they can coil around it because the rough texture will help them to shed in the later stages of shedding you can take a some tweezers and gently peel off any large patches of skin but pull gently if the skin offers any resistance ignore it till another day also a damp rag will aid in removing small bits of skin as well as any debris the snake picks up while shedding

Mine sheds within 24 hours. I wake up and there is skin lying all over the cage. If yours is white in the face and taking awhile to shed his skin (a week or more) you might want to see a vet to make sure he isn't sick.

A good way to tell when your snake is about to start shedding is look at his eyes. Their eyes look cloudy.
