Lots of monitoring programs have an icon that will rest in the icon tray it may turn colors or flash something like that when someone is lisening in or viewing in. My office place has one and I use it all the time as a tech. But there are easy options to hide the icon all together or make it so you cannot tell when someone is viewing.

In my workplace it will turn blue when someone is viewing but it will not do anything when someone is just listening.

But the screen will blink for a split second when someone first starts to view but its incredibly hard to spot.

sadeyzluv <---- They mean in an office. The computer has a viewing program on it. I am sure you miss understood.

As an IT manager with public traded company i can tell you not to worry unless your doing something your not suppose to. Installing an ip sniffer or any other software may result in termination (depending on your companies computer usage policy). The key thing to remember is big brother has adopted new regulations regarding audit tracking and information security. The IT personnel are simply keeping the company as a whole out of court. Some of the things they are looking for is unauthorized software installation, pirated software, music, etc.. Don't worry about the access, the other time you have to worry is when your HR person contacts you regarding a policy issue.
What ever you do....DON'T TAMPER WITH ANY SOFTWARE YOUR IT PERSONNEL HAVE INSTALLED.

It's their computer, their internet connection, not yours.

If you attempt to block or circumvent them and are discovered then they will assume you have something to hide.

Knowing when they are accessing your computer will not allow you to avoid being spied on. For example, they could have programs installed on your computer to log your activity and download it whenever they want. They could also log everyones network traffic that passes through their server (including internet traffic). No need to access your computer.

Employee Monitoring: Is There Privacy in the Workplace?
http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs7-work.htm

"New technologies make it possible for employers to monitor many aspects of their employees' jobs, especially on telephones, computer terminals, through electronic and voice mail, and when employees are using the Internet. Such monitoring is virtually unregulated. Therefore, unless company policy specifically states otherwise (and even this is not assured), your employer may listen, watch and read most of your workplace communications."

"A 2005 survey by the American Management Association found that three-fourths of employers monitor their employees' web site visits in order to prevent inappropriate surfing. And 65% use software to block connections to web sites deemed off limits for employees. About a third track keystrokes and time spent at the keyboard. Just over half of employers review and retain electronic mail messages."

You could install a packet sniffer, e.g. Snort, to monitor the incoming connections to your PC. However, they may not appreciate this.

But be aware that it's probably company policy, so there's nothing you can do about it. If you're doing something that you don't want them to know about, I'd suggest stopping doing it at work.

haha sounds like you arent doing your job :Þ but i dont think its possible without first installing some software on the computers but i think they would notice that of course depending on the program they use for that you might be able to tell if you could modify the settings but you would need the admin password for that if you can get the admin user name and password then you should experiment with it and see what you can do

They can access your computer at any time and there is no way for you to know. They can also take photos of what you are doing, log web pages visited, and record key strokes even when they are not actually viewing your computer.

If you have personal business, take care of it at home. Or get a cell phone with a web browser.

When someone else has access to your pc nothing will blink. For someone to have access to your pc they have to plant a trojan onto your hard drive and for them to be able to do that you would have to accept a picture or other type of attachment in an email or file sharing.

I suggest you get AVG and Sygate Firewall, both are free, here's the links:

Don't worry about it. When you're at work you are not s'posed to be messing around, do that on your home p.c. There are numerous ways to track you, some undetectible. Just behave!
