Whatever was necessary, of course! It would all depend on the circumstances. I mean, if a truck is on fire and the person is obviously going to be beyond saving and you would only be risking losing your own life, and you only end up prolonging the agony of someone who may die anyway...you just have to go with your instinct...it's so hard to know what any of us would do. You wouldn't have time to think you would just have to react, and my gut instinct would be to try to help if I could. Now, if a car went off a bridge and was sinking, then YES, I would definitely jump in and try to save anyone in the car who needs help.
I can't think of too many occasions where I would not want to help someone in need. It's easier for a single childless person to choose when to act, because a parent has to think about their own family as well. In that case the hero factor is taking it a bit too far. It all depends...

I would punch them in the mouth to stop them from hurting themselves...or Shove them out of the way of a bus..I would do anything if I could safely do it...I wouldn't do anything illegal though
