It depends on what the motor is for. If you mean a vehicle engine than you should be careful. Some engines need to be steam cleaned and you can get this done at a dealership. Your best bet is to call the dealer, whichever make of car you are talking about and ask for service dept. Tell them you have a Pontiac...whatever or a Toyota whatever, etc and ask them the best way to clean it. Back in the olden days you could spray an engine with a garden hose, not recommended anymore. :)

You can use a product called Risoline that you can buy at any auto parts store or even Wal-Mart for that matter. With the Risoline, you add it to the oil BEFORE you change it. Run the engine at operating temperature for about 15 minutes and then change the oil. DON"T DRIVE THE CAR WITH THIS STUFF IN IT OR ENGINE DAMAGE CAN RESULT!! (Some people have used kerosene, that gets the inside of the engine really clean, but you shouldn't use it unless your intending on rebuilding soon afterward). Add a good oil treatment like Lucas oil treatment and use it with every other oil change. This stuff will loosen any remaining carbon in the engine and free up any stuck parts, like the lifters. If your cleaning the outside of the motor you can use some stuff called Engine Brite. You need to be careful with newer vehicles because the electrical components can be damaged by the high pressure water that you use to rinse it off with.Cover up the throttle body and alternator with some plastic bags to keep them dry. Make sure all the electrical connections are dry before you drive the car. You can buy some spark plug wire drying spray that will work fine to displace the water out of the connectors. Then use a dielectric grease for the connecters to prevent corrosion.

How you would clean an electric motor would vary from how to clean the engine/motor of a car. Which type do you wish to clean?
