Those who perform in public have often used bananas for the "calming effect". It replaces the potassium which the adrenaline depletes. It will not help anxiety that is not associated with the adrenaline production.

"Epinephrine and other “stress hormones” may reduce intracellular concentrations of potassium and magnesium.2 Although there are no clinical studies in humans, it seems reasonable that individuals using epinephrine should consume a diet high in vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium, or should consider supplementing with these nutrients."

Transient hypokalemia (lowering of blood potassium levels) can be caused in any setting in which there is stress-induced release of epinephrine (adrenaline).

The potassium in the bananas does not suppress the adrenaline, but prevents the anxious feelings associated with it.
