Scottsdale is a good area but it can get kind of pricey, you can also check out Chandler or Ahwatukee it will provide the same quality of life at a lower price. These are all good family areas. I would try to avoid Mesa like the plague it was good in the 80's but it has gotten really run-down lately.

I just moved away from Phoenix almost a year ago. I can honestly say I don't miss it at all. There are lots of shops and restaurants but there is very little culture there. The house prices have risen about 110% over that last few years and to get a nice house in a safe neighborhood you will need to fork over at least $300K. So we sold our house for more than twice what we bought it for and left the area. The violent crime rate is higher in that area than in most other large cities. The heat in the summer is not really the issue. Yes, it's hot, but the issue for me was the dryness. At times the humidity drops to 4%. The air quality is bad and a brown cloud of junk hangs over the city for much of the year. The Phoenix metro area is large and very populated and you can expect to put about 20K miles on a car in an average year. The economy is strong, but has not caught up to the new cost of living in the area. My suggestion would be to consider another place in the Southwest to move to.

Okay, I'm 18 and was born and raised in Scottsdale....houses are expensive here....and I think it's a nice place to live as a teenager, honestly though everyone at the high school I went to were huge parties.....money and alcohol went well together, yes it's hot in the summer, but you get used to it, it's not THAT bad, and if you have a pool in your backyard, you'll just spend all your spare time there and it's not bad....there are tons of places to shop!!! I love Scottsdale Fashion Square mall, but just warning you, it is expensive, but there are other malls in the area....I love it here though.

Summers are brutal and Scottsdale is a relatively expensive place to live. Otherwise, no shortage of normal urban amenities.
Temperatures in the Phoenix area often do not go *below* 90 degrees from June through September...and by that I mean the *low* temps. That's the more brutal aspect of it for me.

I've lived in Phoenix. The summers are hotter than you can ever imagine. Teens hang out in the many malls. Shopping and restaurants are great. Integration never was accepted or encouraged in Phoenix. Pull up the Phoenix newspaper and check classifieds. Scottsdale is White, middle class to upper middle class. In summer everything is super airconditioned. Think about utilitity costs, too,

If you are a teenager....its not a good place to be...we're moving out of phoenix because people keep getting molested (i dont appreciate it when stalkers follow me home but i'm not the only one) and shot etc... the heat is pretty hot and the houses vary depending on which side of phoenix. Scottsdale.....is all Mercedes and BMW's and paradise valley is good area to live in...downtown, glendale...no! and Phoenix is getting really crowded so be aware of that.

expect up to 110 degrees in the summer, it can get extremely hot where all you want is drive or stay home with a/c. Scottsdale is a very nice place to live in but very expensive, i would recommend living in Tempe where most college and teenagers are... there are plenty of restaurants from Mexican to Chinese food, it is a very big city to live in you will find allot to do.

Hey i live in Canton Mi, and if i can find someone to buy my house, I am leaving too.
My house is fairly nice, about 1800sf, about 220k...In Tempe or Gilbert similar size houses are about 50-100k more expensive.
I lived there in 1993...and you wont go wrong by moving there...sure you have to spend a lot of your time inside due to the heat for 3 months, but isnt that better than being inside for 6 months due to cold weather? And then in the summer here in MI instead of having nice weather, we have humidity...and no jobs...to hell with this place.
