I think a lot of rock songs are linked with life, just depends on exactly what you're going through to find the right song. As for death, if you're into My Chemical Romance they're whole friggin' album is based on death... kinda like their last. Personally, I think the whole "death" theme is overrated. Slipknot has a bunch of meaningful songs on their later albums as well as Stone Sour. They're pretty mellowed-out, but they make you think.

Evanescence's song "Like You" tells about the pain and suffering of losing someone so close to you. (In the case of the song, the singer's little sister.)

The lyrics are haunting, and in some people's minds a little creepy, (chorus: I long to be like you; lie cold in the ground like you do. There's room inside for two.. etc etc)

But it's a beautiful song.

Also, the song "What Sarah Said" by Death Cab For Cutie tells the story of losing someone and waiting for the news in a waiting room of an ICU.

Also a beautiful song.
