I've found an old show and I was wondering how I can transfer the video onto computer. The show's name is "Hey Vern it's ernest!"
So I was wondering what equipment do I need and how do I get it transfered to computer.

Look up this device, called Dazzle. It allows you to connect a VCR to it, and then to your computer. I don't know if it comes with software to handle saving a VCR to your computer. I think it could be cheaper to find a business on line that will transfer the VCR show to a DVD, since the hardware and software needed is going to be expensive unless you have allot of tapes you want on your computer. First and most importantly you would need a capture card. The best ones (not the most expensive either) is an internal capture card. You can get a card that replaces your video card and is a video card and capture card in one. I would reccommend an ATI All In Wonder Radeon. They are not all that expensive ($100-$200) The advantage of an all in one is that you do not use another slot and it has audio inputs as well, which ensures that the mouth movement matches the sound you hear (in sync).
The other option is to get an add in card. It would only capture video. The sound inputs would go through your sound card via the line in jack. Once you have the equipment you would hook up your VCR output of the RCA jacks (yellow, red, white) to the all in one card or the capturecard and sound card. I would use the free encoding/capture program VirtualDub http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=virtualdub&filename=VirtualDub-1.6.17.zip&use_mirror=umn to record it into your computer. I would also get the Huffy YUV lossless codec http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu/benrg/huffyuv-2.1.1.zip as the capture codec. You can then follow this guide to set the settings and use the program. http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/virtualdub_procedures.htm Once you have it captured you would encode it. The guide above shows you how to encode into Divx (which would be used for computer playback and select new DVD players) If you would like to encode it to DVD instead of Divx, follow the above guide until you ge to the encoding to Divx section and then get the program TMPGEnc Plus http://download1.pegasys-inc.com/download_files/TMPGEnc-2.524.63.181-Plus-EN-Installer-DL.exe (free 14 day fully functional trial version) and follow this guidethat will show you how to encode it to DVD http://www.rita.lt/dap&js_guides/TMPGEnc_Plus_ILLUSTRATED_GUIDE_(AVItoMPEG)_by_dap&js.zip It is a long and sometimes complicated process, but it is fun and free. Best of luck. There are many guides and way to do it. I mostly use free programs. The only one I use that is not free is TMPGEnc Plus.
