I am writing an essay on mass media and how it has affected us by destroying our intelligence. I am not sure whether to argue or agree. I do not understand the steps in writing it. I know that there is an introduction, body, thesis, conclusion, but what is the order in which you write about first? I am lost. If you have any helpful information for me please reply. Thank you guys!

introduction
Body
Conclusion
References

-Introduction (in this order)
~Catchy Opening Phrase
~Some words about the topic in general and others who have studied it, especially why the topic is important
~Your thesis statement
~Description of what you are going to talk about in the paper in order (First I will discuss how ... then ...)

- Body
Should have at least 3 paragraphs
In the order you choose: one paragraph that has a point to back up your thesis, a second paragraph with a new point to back up your thesis, and a third paragraph to discuss the opposing point to your thesis and then your views on that

- Conclusion (in this order)
~ Restate what you discussed (in new words)
~ Restate why it is important (in new words)
~ Say something catchy to end the paper

Generally the shape of a paper is like an hour glass that goes introduction - broad to specific and to conclusion - specific to broad.

Start with forming your thesis and your main points. Most people prefer to right the body of the paper first then go back and write the intro and conclusion.

References refer to where you got information to back up your thesis. Books, websites, etc..

Thesis is the main point/statement of the paper

If you have to use a certain format then you better look it up on google. Most typical format is MLA.

When writing an essay it is important to stay on topic and give enough supporting details for your thesis. You would need to write an introduction which should contain your thesis, which is usually your last sentence in that paragraph. Next you want to give details to why your belief is relevent to the topic. Depending on how many pages you need to write, your body will have between 3 to 5 paragraphs. Finally, you have your conclusion which will restate your thesis along with some of your opinions as to why.

A good idea for a thesis might be, "With news like the latest Britney Spear's hairdo or Anna Nicole's death, it is no surprise that television, newspapers, and magazine tabloids have destroyed our intelligence."

Pre-writing
Writing
Revising

Start with a clear outline accompanied by well-thought of and well-researched notes. It should be easy to right after essay after that.

But if you're too lazy to go through the whole pre-writing process. My friend would begin with the body and then just add the intro and conclusion in the end. But of course following the writing process would almost guarantee you a really good grade for your paper.
