I just recently did some research and found out there's a little illegal activity going on where i work. Here's what it is. The assistant manager here is drawing her social security now, and is aloud to work 2.5 days a week, without having to report her wages to the Social Security. Well, She is on the schedule for 3.5 days a week now, but here's the catch. On her third day of work in a week, she's using her daughters time card to punch in and out, so she doesn't have to report her wages to the social security. . . Here's the question. . . . Should i report it, or should i not? . . The catch is, if i don't, and something gets said later on, i could get in trouble for abedding illegal activity, but if i do say something i'm afraid they'll fire me.

It's as simple as this. . . I turn them in, they fire me for it, they get sued, and i have money! . . OR, i turn them in, then Manager, Assistant Manager, and daughter all gets fired and/or arrested, and i get praised by the actual owners, and possibly a raise. . . Either way works out for me!

They CAN'T fire you for reporting it. In fact, hope they try. That's a lot of money in your wallet after you successfully sue them for inappropriately terminating your employment. If someone is breaking the law, you are obligated to report it. You are right. It would be illegal for them to terminate your employment for doing this. YOU could be liable if you know about it and she gets busted anyway. You know what you have to do. Good luck!

It is a moral dilemma that you have to think hard on as to whether you can live with yourself if you don't report it. It's human nature to not want to get involved when there is some danger to ourselves, either physical or just keeping a job that is your livelihood. But think how society would be different if everyone covered their own patoots all the time? All the whistle blowers who ever made a difference.. what if they said " I might lose my job if I speak up" ? What she is doing is illegal and immoral and she would most most likely lose her job over it which is not what you want I am sure. But if everyone did the wrong thing, what kind of world would it be? This is a decision only you can make

Report them. This is clearly illegal, plus her daughter is paying taxes for her mother and this becomes very messy... IRS the whole nine yards. Report them!

Just a personal note. You've posted the other question about your work hours. Your last question you were afraid of being fired over as well, along with wanting to sue.

You may want to re-evaluate your situation very seriously. I am sure you can find a similar place to work.

Do you live with this person..are you in management.? do you take care of business or payroll ? If you answered no to any of these questions then you should just mind your own business and do your job and never mind causing problems for others.Social security does not pay very much and maybe this poor lady needs every penny she earns..in the end she is not getting money for free she IS putting in the time and work to get paid.and the government still gets his cut off her daughters pay check .so who is getting hurt.NO ONE...so just leave well enough alone and people don't like people who cause problems at work so if you don't end up fired you will end up as the black sheep who no one will trust believe me

Report this immediately to the Human Resource Division of your company. Also advise them that you are also reporting it to the Social Security Administration and to the Internal Revenue Service. This way they have no choice but to follow up on your report. Make sure you document everything, dates, times, where, when, and who you spoke to. I cannot stress to you enough, document, document, document!!!!!

Sometimes its better to MYOB.
Mind Your Own Business.

Other times--wrong is wrong..
By using daughters time card--at least taxes are being paid and no one is being cheated out of money.
SSn is being deducted as well as taxes.

So actually the money is being earned under the daughter.
I would not worry about that.
No one is losing..

However you might-by sticking your nose where it don't belong..
what you really don't know don't hurt..

It's allowed not aloud--abeit not abedding...

and you might get fired for being nosy.
