i recently built a new system and i am pretty sure the cpu is overheating. i installed speedfan which shows me the temp of the cpu, and when running cpu intensive programs, the cpu temp will get up to about 70 degrees C and then the computer auto shuts off. the fan seems to be working fine and i put thermal paste on it when i put the heatsink on. i have installed lots of computers before and never seen this problem.
any ideas?

Could just be a bad processor, send it back asap regardless once they over heat they usually start acting funny , it dosnt take much to kill one with heat... Make sure that the heat sink is on the right way, there is 2 different ways to put one on, look for the lip and make sure its on there good and flat. Make sure that you removed the thermal tape if you put paste on it.

70 C is a little high but not really dangerously high, you may want to check your BIOS settings to ensure that your fans are running at maximum, also make sure you have enough ventilation for your system, try adding case fans, a better heatsink, changing the heatsink fan to a higher grade one or moving the system to an area with better air circulation.
