Basically all u need to do is prove that you have a stable environment for the children, if i were you, i would bring pictures of my home, especially pictures of the childrens bedroom to show that its set up and ready to be their "home".. if the children are still in daycare or will even need daycare part of the day, i would show that i have it set in place and ready to go if the judge were to grant me joint custody.. any proof that shows that ur a very active parent in their life, whether it be with the schools, with doctor appts, dentist appts..etc..
Dont go in there with a cocky additude or with distain for your soon to be ex.. the judge is looking at how ur willing to get along with the other parent, they want to make sure that ur going to have the childrens best interest at heart, and that u will promote a healthy relationship with the other parent even while they are in your care..

So basically show that u have a plan of action set up for your children, show that your environment is just as stable if not more stable then your estranged spouse's..

I suggest you get a lawyer there is a saying "a person who is their own legal reprsentative has a fool for a client" and that saying rings true everytime. You are only hurting yourself by going in the way you are. It takes much longer than a week to prepare a case of your sort so you are going in totally unprepared an unrepresented. You're more than likely going to get screwed.

I hope your not a sorry dad like my daughters father! You will need to be prepared to be asked how you live and work and your normal life style! It would not hurt to know as much as possible about kids.. grades, friends, likes, dislikes, etc. My daughters dad had to get suppenas for everything for her cause he knows nothing about her school or dr.s or anything!! Its sad!! she is 7!

Good Luck though! Kids deserve there daddys and mommys as long as they are being well taken care of!

Take any records of anything you have about children and ya might right out good things when they are with you and negativity when they are with there mother.. ya know !!

All you need to do is ask.

But beware if she goes out and spend $500.00 on a doctor visit you will have to pay half of it. Are you really ready for that?

p.s. I suggest you pay child support and get visitation rights.
