Did you mean you can no longer bear the job? Yes, I think maybe teaching is not the profession for you.
What are your hobbies?

If it's more than you can "bear", then maybe you should stop to consider why. I also work in a low income, underperforming urban school. When I'm feeling ovewhelmed, I work with my colleagues to alleviate those feelings. As far as what to do now, do you want to leave teaching altogether, or would you consider another age group? I started my career in Middle School but found that teaching elementary was more my cup of tea. Something else to consider is moving to another school. Our district has 65 elementary schools, so there is always somewhere else to go. Maybe you just need a change of schools....maybe you should consider changing professions. I have worked as an Editor for Educational text books before, too. It is something that will allow you to utilize your skills and experience, but will afford you the opportunity to change the people you work with. Good luck. If you're truly feeling like you can no longer bear teaching, do your students a favor and get out. Really, they can sense your animosity.

Consider Educational Administration, this would mean you will have to return to school for further studies. Adult education is another option and you can teach night school - adults are more purposeful than youth and will cooperate with their teachers.
Children tend to be more candid and do not seem to realize that honesty is sometimes hurtful, but one thing is for sure you know where you stand with kids. Why don't you start an extra mural peer communication program and teach them the art of debating. It will be constructive whilst it reins in the hostility. Research for topics will make them learn about new things and critical thinking will enable then think before insulting others..

How long have you been teaching? If you haven't been teaching that long, I would strongly suggest trying another district before completely giving up on your career. You might also want to try high school...the kids are more mature and generally not as mean to each other as they are in middle school. Good luck.

According to what I keep hearing in the press, schools in other districts are looking for teachers. You could try a school in a different district, or you could try teaching college courses instead. Community colleges and "for-profit" colleges need teachers, especially for the "general education" type of classes. Generally, college students are at least a little more mature.

If you have a Bachelor's than you can teach at a community college and if you have a Master's than you can teach at a 4 year college or University.
Try teaching online classes either at a community college and if you have a Master's at a 4 year school or University.
Pray for God to help you find another job and than let him led you to the right school.
You can go to www.brooklyntabernacle.org and put your pray request on there or TBN.

Try a grade or two down, before they get hormonal. A private school might be better for you to. The kids are still typical kids, but not as bitter as kids who have nothing. They are kids with parents at home and a bit of money so they don't have to make do.

when i go driving, i expect to see 158 morons driving carelessly , if if doesn´t go beyond that point, i can still keep my cool while i am driving. i always run into few but it doesn´t bother me.
why don´t you lower your standards. you want the kids to fit into your box, forget it. i once read an article asking CEO´s from corporate 500, what´s the best quality that has helped them the most ? attitude. your perspective on people or things can make 180 degrees difference.
others picture god carrying them around the shcool. it erases any stress you might have from your daily routine. you might find other careers more peaceful buy they won´t be as fulfilling as the teaching profession.
remember, love cures the receiver and the giver. and to love is a choice you make, not an emotion you expect to feel.
good luck.

The fact is you will probably still have to go back to school. I would say take a sabatical and try to get a masters in educational pschyology and move to a counselor postion or educational leadership to move to administration. I think you could get an entry level human resources job and take classes to become certified.

You need to transfer to a school where the students value education more. I hate innercity schools and will ever teach there.
