once my babies could roll over onto their tummies I let them stay that way if they did it in their sleep. Another option would be the adjustable side sleeper pillow, you put your baby on it's left side and then place the little wedge cushons up against baby (they velcro on for a custom fit) my babies loved it too.

I am a mother of 2 and I would always put them on their back. A lot of times they would roll onto their sides so I would roll some blankets up and put them so they could not roll back. I never put them on their stomach. When they are able to roll over then they should be fine but I would say not until then.

I'd let her then. I don't know what the current position for newborns is supposed to be...but when my oldest was a baby, you were supposed to lie them on their stomach from the beginning. You were definitely NOT supposed to put them on their back as they could choke on any vomit...then when my youngest came along, you were supposed to prop the baby on their side and NOT put them on their stomach because they could suffocate in softer mattresses. My sister tells me that you are no longer supposed to prop them up as babies rolled into the prop pillows (or blankets) and suffocated. I'd say any way that she is comfortable except on her back. I can't tell you how many times mine would vomit up milk in their sleep. Both of mine seemed to prefer the stomach also.

This seems to change so often, I guess we should ask, "what is the proper infant sleeping position du jour?"

Usually when they are old enough to roll from their back to stomach and stomach to back easily, and can sit up, you can let them sleep in whatever position they want to.

When she rolls herself over onto her tummy.

I set my daughter on her side and put a rolled up baby blanket in front of her and one behind her to keep her on her side. Eventually she got too active and just slept however she wanted, nudging the rolled blankets away.

When your baby is able to roll from her back to stomach and back again and is strong enough to hold her head up. Just make sure that there isn't anything in the baby's crib that she can sink her face into.

I was told never to lay a child to sleep on their stomach. Just wait until they can turn over themselves at night and then you don't have to flip them back over if they flip themselves over at night. My mother in law insisted on putting our newborn daughter to sleep on her stomach despite our request for her not to. So when my daughter was about six months she was able to flip over on her stomach at night so we just let her sleep like that, but we would never lay her down on her stomach.

I've been told that newborns should sleep on their stomachs. If there are not lots of blankets and such around, there is no problem of suffocation, but on their backs, if they spit up, they can choke on it in their sleep. My mother put all of her kids on their stomachs from birth. So did my grandmother, and her mother. All of us are fine.

Even SIDS says stomach sleepers are fine.
