Im a noob at this and this is my first guitar.
I bought a electric guitar and wanna know how to tune it. right now it sounds like a regular acoustic guitar and i want it to sound like a rock or metal guitar.

Im using a regular speaker like the one you use for a computer or suround sound on your tv and it plays like a regular acoustic guitar would.

so do i need a real guitar amp to play like that or can i use a regular speaker and tune it

You need a tuner to tune it. And get yourself an amp. It's pointless trying to play an electric guitar through a regular speaker.

You want metal? Get yourself an amp. My first practice amp was a Marshall jcm800 combo amp, but those can get pretty darn pricey. Find yourself a Fender guitar amp. Plug it in and crank up the gain knob. Once you've found the desired distortion, play with your other tone knobs until you find something you like.

As far as tuning goes, the most metal you can get without an intonation adjustment, is "drop D". Basically, take your low E string and drop it down to a D. Then, learn how to use this tuning with tabs.
Most metal guitarists nowadays play in "drop C" and "drop B" tunings, i do not advise this with your strat as dropping the strings that much without the proper adjustments will A) make the strings flop around like a slinky, or B) sound like thudding garbage.

Google "Guitar tuning techniques" and look for the tabs for your favorite songs to play. If you don't understand tabs, its simple; there will be six horizontal lines that indicate your strings. The numbers are the frets.

You DEFINATELY need to get an amp. If there's a music store in your area, go there, and if it's a good store, there will be people that will be happy to help you find a good amp. What you need is distortion. In case you don't know what that is, imagine how an acoustic guitar sounds. That is commonly known as a "clean" sound. In rock and metal, distortion is used most of the time. Distortion literally distorts the sound of your guitar. There is also Overdrive and Fuzz, which are very similar to distortion.

You can get amps at places like Target or Best Buy, but I would strongly reccomend going to a music store so you can talk to people who know exactly what you need, and help you tune your guitar.

You'll need at least a basic guitar amp to be able to get any type of distortion. They have several reasonably priced guitar amps that'll fit the bill at Best Buy. You'll be able to get lots of different sounds with a Strat type guitar( 3 pickups and a 5position switch).

um hey im a guitarist too , it all depends on the style of the music you want to play their are many tunings you have to pick the right one for you ...there is
Standard tuning E,A,D,G,B,e
Down half step Eb,Ab,Db.Bb,eb btw b means flat its the symbol for it
drop d, D,A,D,G,B,e this is similar to standard only one string is changed to play power chords with one finger , Many bands use this one, its sounds heavy if you get strings with heavier guages
down a full step D,G,C,F,A,D is used by some bands
Drop c im not sure exactly what the strings are tuned to in this one but the lowsest string and first string are both c
hope that helped
oh yea you need an amp for distortion , get like a marshall or line 6 or a fender amp or something that goes well with strats , your gonna have to look it up your self because its based on your taste of music
