An example answer would be 2,3,1,7,6,4,5 ....meaning you hate 2 the most and 5 the least.
1. Long lines or slow checkout...because the staff is often too busy doing things other than helping check customers out
2. Long lines or slow checkout...because the cashier just is not fast enough at checking me out at the register
3. There are several different/split sections in different parts of the
store for the same thing (IE men's shirts)...and I have to walk around the entire place to see the whole selection for the product I wan
4. There are products on the floor / unfolded-unpackaged merchandise / the store is just too messy
5. The staff does not know where the merchandise you want to find is
6. The store is unclear about what is and is not on sale(for example, saying they are having a 50% sale when the fine print says which brands qualify)
7. I am forced to wait for an employee to check the prices of items at the register rather than scan them myself to find the price

Dude, this is complicated.
Target: None. I love shopping at Target. Rarely have problems.
Wal-Mart: 4, 2, 1, 6, 7 (plus, I hate the parking lots, and I disagree with their ethical practices)
JCPenny: 3, 1 (but I don't shop at Penny's as much as I used to)

It depends on the store. Generally I don't have any problems with target, the staff is knowledgeable and the lines are always short enough.
but generally
4, 3, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7
Wal-Mart is the biggest offender here. Every time I go there they have unopened boxes all over the place the floors are a mess, the shelves are a mess, the staff doesn't speak english, if you shop there late at night you have to try and find the one person in the store wearing a red vest to buy anything expensive. They won't call the person in the red vest for you either you have to hurt him/her down. When you find the person in the red vest they are taking money out of a drawer so when you approach her, she calls security and security comes and tackles you... and you bust your nose and get blood on the floor, and when you go back two days later the blood is still there.

The worst things for me, though, are apathetic staff and knowing that by buying at giant retailers I'm probably endorsing sweat/child labour somewhere - so I generally try to avoid them anyway.

I get sweat pants or PJ's and such, but I need a size small. Women get to them before I do.

It doesn't matter which queue you join, the ones either side will *always* move faster. I think it may be a law of nature.
