I am not sure if merely going to college can make you any more responsible than graduating from high school and going out and living on your own. College is a transition time. You do have to be more responsible, but it gives you a safety net to fall back on. You get a great opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. I think that college helps you realize life is result oriented. In college they do not care how you learn as long as you learn.

College can be looked at as a time in between being a kid and an adult. For the most part, this is the first time that you are on your own. For me, it was the first time I was paying my own bills and balancing a check book and responsible for my own school work and grades (without parents telling me to do it). I think it made for a time to ease into being an adult. Also, socially it was a great time. It allowed me to be put in a place to make my own "right and wrong" decisions. Plus, the exposure to all the different classes was a great way to help figure out what i wanted to do.
You learn responsibility because you are forced into it.
Good luck.

In college, you have a lot of choices and need to learn how to make the ones which are best for you. If you go right to work after high school, you will likely not have many options, and you will have to do what is available to you. If you go into the military, someone else will make all of your decisions for you. If you go to college, you will need to figure out what to study, when to study, how to afford it all, which activities to get involved with, etc.

If you go to college you arent living under you parents roof. You have to make all the choices and decisions. You have to decide if you want to go to class and how to do your laundry. When you gain independence you become more responsible for yourself.
