take a look at this website: http://www.princetonreview.com/cte/search/careerResults.asp?search=counselor&view=both
i didn't know if you wanted career counselor or guidance counselor or psychologist (another counselor type). this website will advise you on possible majors for college, what life is like as a counselor, possible employers, average income, etc.
you'll have to sign in to see the information, but ive found the website to be really useful in college searches (but that'll be later on for you!).
as mentioned above, talking to a counselor would be helpful too. you might shadow one and see what they do on a daily basis. good luck!

Most of the counselors I have known have a degree in education, but then have a masters in educational psychology. If you are talking about a marriage counselor first step is a bachelors in psychology. Either way you will be somehow involved in psychology. I would talk to my school counselor and talk over your options. I would ask them about any peer counseling programs. This is a good step because in order to help people because you have to be a good listener.

What kind of counselor are you trying to become? A school counselor? A marital and family counselor? A psychological counselor? (I'm assuming you don't mean a camp counselor!). The classes will vary, depending on what you mean, but generally they will be in the area of psychology.
