Sorry - this might be a little tough to hear, But I will say it in the nicest way possible.
Mathematics takes practice. I was never good at math, So I can totally identify with you. When I was in 9th grade, my math teacher told me I wasn't smart enough to do advanced, & i wanted to do advanced. I worked my @ss off, and did lots of lots of practice. Now i'm one course away from my degree in Pure Mathematics.
Math is hard work, & it takes alot of practice. To improve on a particular skill in mathematics, what some people take for granted is knowing the basics. If you are having trouble with a topic in particular, go back & re-learn the basics. That might help. Good luck!! I think improving your mathematics is a great goal.

there is no "easy way" out of math, the best way is to practice!!! That's what my pre-cal teacher says all day! The more you practice the better you get, since usually the questions you practice in one section involve the same principles and concepts. You should make sure you understand EVERYTHING in one part you're working on before you move on to another, since everything builds upon the step before, so you can't afford to not know. and ASK QUESTIONS if you can. the gap between being average and great is called effort and you can't get there with out PRACTICE!!! =)

It's like any other sport, the more you practice, the better you get.
But work the example problems in your textbooks. Work each step to be sure your answers are the same as the book at each step. That's where you really get some 'guided' practice. Make sure you understand, at each step,, what was done and why it was done that way.
