This is a How To That Explains how to Apply the Makeup and it doesn't Seem to be Too Heavy when they're Finished. It might help you out.

I make my Eyes Smoky and the Trick I use if I have put too Much black or Grey on, is To take a Light Tan color that has a little Shimmer to it and Go over my whole Eye. This takes some of the Edge off the Dark color and it Blends it all together really Nicely so it's look Flawless. But make sure it doesn't Glitter too much or you'll end up looking Even Worse because then it'll be too dark with Shine over it. Look for a Neutral Tan that is kinda Sheer but has a tiny shine to it.

Try Experimenting with Lighter shades of Grey, so it won't look like too much. Try a grey Eye liner instead of Black (if you use black now)

Keep the other Colors on the Eye a Neutral Shade besides the Dark eye shadow That way it is toned down and make sure your Lip stick Matches the Smoke Look so it all ties together to have that Glamerous Flawless look. You want the lip stick to be a nude shade, lip gloss with color to it, just don't Overdo the Lip color so the Focus is on your Eyes for the Evening.

Here are some other Sites you can look at for Pictures, tips, examples, and how to get the Look.

Just keep trying different ways (it took me several trys until I got a smokey look that I liked and fit my Eye shape)
Keep Experimenting with Different shades, Mix some Together, It doesn't have to always be Gray or black to be Smokey. It could be a dark brown with some Gold accents to get the look you want. Sometimes I use Gray for the Smoke Color and Light Pink as my base (pink substitutes the natural Tan color typically used)

Good Luck I hope this helps you out

use dark shadow, hold your eye at the corner and pull a bit and just get the tip of the brush colored then just swipe at the lash line. Also, revlon just came out with a smoky eye powder made just for that. After that, I use dark eyeliner on the inner lid and corners. but make sure to keep the rest of your makeup simple! natural.

If it looks too much, use less eye shadow or use different colors, also blend very very well.

apply a thin line of dark liner (pencil works best for this), smudge it with a smudger to amount of smudge desired.
