Depending on how well you know the Mother, you could make a coupon booklet with coupons inside good for babysitting for specific times, errand running, housekeeping and even cooking meals. Make sure you will have the time before committing. These things are very meaningful to a new Mom. If you have an announcement, you could use that as part of the coupon booklet to make it more personal.

Glam up a picture frame using the theme from his/ her room. That's unique and special, Mom will keep it forever. A keepsake box is always a great gift for a new baby, you can decorate it any way you want. Have Fun!

What about making your own original baby album or knitting a giraffe or one of those xknits into a picture. There are gorgeous whinnie the pooh ones.

I really like the personalized cross-stitch bibs. They come with quite a few patterns or you can design your own. Wal-mart has the kits for sure and i thing the blank bibs.

Maybe writing it a letter could be nice. Of course he/she cant read it now, but when they can they will really appreciate it and can keep it with them forever.

I would think any decor type thing would be appriciated.. it is not hard to make pictures, mobiles, toys etc... Be creative.
