I accidently deleted all of my files from one of my classes off of my USB storage device, is there anyway to recover them. I know alot about computers, but not alot about USB Storage devices. I was moving folders around and accidently deleted the wrong folder. It was full of two months worth of work that is going to be terrible to have to re-do. If you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks!

When windows deletes a file, it does not delete the entire file. It destroys the very first part of the file and marks the rest so that the OS can use it for storage again. There is a VERY good chance that your data is just sitting on your USB key waiting for you to read it.

FIRST - DO NOT WRITE TO IT ANYMORE. Do not put another file on it, do not defrag or check disk, If it has a write protect switch, turn in on now. You do not need to write to the drive to recover data.

There are quite a few data recovery tools out there, and some even specialize in recovery off of solid state devices like your thumb drive. The first program I start out with in this situation is Bad Copy Pro. Very easy to use program that recovers files from cd's, jazz and zip disk, as well as usb and other memory devices. It cost around 40 dollars.
Another open source (read: free) data recovery tool is found here http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
These steps work for files deleted on hard drives as well. The only difference is that you would shut off the computer and plug the hard drive in as a slave to another computer with the software installed.
Good Luck!

Ooooh. Bummer. I think you might be SOL. You could try a file recovery utility like norton, but I don't know how much luck you'll have. I assume you are talking about a flash drive, not an external USB hard drive, right? If it was a hard drive, you could definitely use a file recovery tool to try to get your data back.

Well Evans, I agree with Amenda.
If you have deleted files from your USB key, then there is no way to bring them back I am afraid….
Have you not left a copy of it on the computer you worked on??
If you have deleted it from there and not 'Cut-Copy-Paste' it on to your USB key, then you can recover it from that computer using the recovery tools...

Sad to tell you there is only 1% chance in recovering your deleted files. Let me give you a piece of advice... Always make a backup copy of your important files... (",)
