I need something that will be able to store my pictures so no one can "accidentally" run into them on my shared computer; I have taken lots and lots of pictures and I'm not knowledgeable with computers so what sort of thing would I need?

Since I'm not that bright when it comes it this, I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me exactly what to get...

At first I thought I was supposed to get a flash drive but apparently those are just used to transfer stuff; not store stuff.

Get an external USB drive. How big depends on how many gigs of data you want to store.
Here is a link to pricewatch, which can help you find a good deal on what you need.

I use flashdrives for storage, and have 5 actually so I can keep my files separated on different flashdrives. They are all 1G and under. I did get them all on sale by watching ads in the Sunday paper.

To buy one big enough to store pictures, you might be better off money-wise to go for an external hard drive connected by USB. Very easy to use. Just install, plug in, and use like a floppy.

Yeah, you need an external hard drive for photos and videos. Something probably over 80 GB.
