Leading archaeologists have for some time concluded that Atlantis was most likely the Mediterranean island of Santorini.
So the continent would be identified as Europe.
The island was a significantly larger land mass before the cataclysmic volcanic eruption that has been dated to around 1500B.C. There may have been more than one island effected but was totally destroyed. This is unknown and still a matter of theory.
From ancient Egyptian records we know that at the time, there was a period were darkness fell upon Egypt and it rained mud.
Very similar descriptions of features that occurred after the Mt St Helen's volcanic eruption of recent times in America.
We know there was an advanced culture evolving in the area, with trade links established.
But after the volcanic eruption no more is heard about it.
It was not however any further advanced than the Egyptian culture. Time and mans imagination have increased the technology and level of civilised culture to magnificent proportions.
Proportions that are way beyond credibility.

In my personal opinion, I think the true, original Atlantis was what is now referred to as the asteroid belt, in the orbit where there should be the fifth planet. I think that the inhabitants there developed some exotic method of producing energy and used it for making war, resulting in the destruction of thier planet. I think they also developed space travel, and came to the earth and colonised it just before the great cataclism that destroyed their world. They may have named some places on the earth after places on thier home world, but I don't think the original Atlantis was here, on this planet. This is why, I think, nobody can find it here.

From what I have read/seen/studied, most evidence points to Atlantis (whether it was a continent or island) being located in the Northern Atlantic near the British Isles, Greenland, and Iceland. I am not an expert, just what I have gathered.

Plato heard the story from another person who took him to where the story was written on a stone pillar or plaque.
The question is was it located on the west side of the Pillars of Hercules or the East side.
One of the sunken Islands in the Mediterranean if the west side .
or with plate tectonics maybe Anartica or off the coast of Florida.or just as the story says sunken below the waters of what we now call the Atlantic ocean.
