We occasionally get a roach around here. I don't want to fumigate because there are no gaurentees, and I would do the boric acid thing if I had a few weeks to get out while the roaches died. But I was wondering what the best way to kill one roach would be. Preferably a bug spray. My roommate and I are both scared of roaches, but she can handle dead ones. So we just need a way to kill it without a lot of fuss (and from a distance).
Thanks!

I don't think there are a lot of roaches around. We've only ever seen two. And both times, luckily someone else came over to take care of it.

Keep your house clean. Vacuum atleast 2 or 3 times a week to make sure you get up crumbs and what-not. You also would not need to leave your house for a few days while you used boric acid. If you have children or pets then I wouldnt do that. Have some bug spray around for when you see them. Maybe get some of them roach motel thingys. Not sure how great those work but it wouldn't hurt to try. Just basically keep everything clean and keep all food closed and nothing open. Hope this helps!

Roaches are generally found around homes, cars metro buses because food is being thrown on the floor or left on the furniture.
You can leave roach traps around but if there are little people (children) in the house I would not do that ..Then the best thing is to have the area where you see these critters the most sprayed but leave a window open it can cause grow-ups and children and pets sick from the fumes..

Seriously... non toxic and HIGHLY effective:
Diatomaceous earth
Diatomite is also used as an insecticide, due to its physico-sorptive properties. The fine powder absorbs lipids from the cuticle, the waxy outer layer of insects' exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate. Arthropods die as a result of the water pressure deficiency, based on Fick's law of diffusion. It is sometimes mixed with an attractant or other additives to increase its effectiveness. Medical grade diatomite is sometimes used to de-worm both animals and humans. It is most commonly used in lieu of boric acid, and can be used to help control and eventually eliminate a cockroach infestation. Contact your local garden nursery for pricing and availability.

They make a "Paste" that you can put up under your cabinets, or places where no one can get into it that works great!!! I had some, and when they eat this stuff, they take it back with them, and die, and when they die the others eat them, and they die also!! I think it was put out by Ortho? Got it at the grouchier store. Roaches love and need water, so keep thing dry. If they have no water or food around, they will useally leave.

Where there's one there's more get it fumigated if you have radiator heat Make sure you seal the wall where the pipe comes out. I had the same problem in an old apartment they would only be in the bathroom and kitchen cause of the water.

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.
