I'm 18, sometimes paranoid, have a wild imagination, almost always nervous, and can get scared easily.
How can I decrease the intensity of my fears without sacrificing anything?

I know it could be hard for you... but try relaxation. A half hour a day does wonders. Don't try to control your imagination: let it wander around in your mind. But try and think of relaxing images.

Seeing a professional about this would not be sacrificing. Maybe you are developing an anxiety problem and when caught at the right time, you need no medication. There are breathing techniques you can learn that are great too.

Look for breathing techniques on the net and relaxations methods. Jacobson's is great! Because it makes you focus on parts of your body... meanwhile, your imagination is kind of stuck and cannot wander as much.

Good luck!

Well people that are compulsive actually have really good imaginations. If you could take an art class to express your imagination and decompress your nervous anxiety you would not only be benefiting yourself but other people that could enjoy your work.
Pottery, painting, designing are all creative endeavors you can do. I don't understand what your fear of sacrificing is? We all sacrifice to do well in this world, unless your use to everythin being handed to you on a silver platter.
Buck (that means suck it up) up and get on with your life!!!

Looks like you have OCD as well...considering how many times you posted the ADD comment.

Try some therapy. There's one called DMR that might help.
Of course there is always individual therapy.

If you don't want to try either of these suggestions, or any others posted, all you can really do is continue on in your current state of misery. People can't be helped unless they're ready for it.

I think i know what your talking about. Save the meds and the religion, your the only one who can make the difference. Find some down time, take yourself to a chill place and do a lil self exploration (mental, not physical) theres a couple excersizes i've used to to center myself, but i'll save that less you ask to know.
It all boils down to self confidence. When things get overwhelming, you need to ask yourself 'why is this so important?' and even better 'If im doin all i can, theres nothing else i can do' so just calm down and let it happen.

you should go see a counsellor to talk about these feelings before you see a doctor and get prescribed anything. if you aren't doing anything physical, you should start doing some type of exercise to help you focus or relax. try to stay away from any stimulant substances like caffeine. get a journal to write out these fears...but most importantly go see a counsellor/psychologist before getting any meds.

simply put progressive relaxation techniques, deep breathing, positive reinforcement or positive experiences, some cognitive restructuring perhaps. A support system is a must, talking with a counselor couldn't hurt.

You need to face your fears. When you face them and see that your life continues you will realize that those that were holding you back no longer have that power over you.

Do so by trusting in the lord grace that is sufficient to enable you to be confident and overcome all your fears.

just relax, and try to think of something else, don't always assume the worst, just say that the things that you are thinking will never happen, and you should feel better
