Penguins mate as most birds do with the male on top and the cloacas pressed together.
They eat fish, squid and krill.
They live in the southern hemisphere and breed from the equator on the Galapagos islands to the coast of Antarctica.
You will find descriptions and photographs of the seventeen species by googling.
The term "penguin" was first used of the Great Auk in the northern hemisphere and was then applied to southern hemisphere birds.
Penguins would have been first seen by the first people to see southern Africa or southern South America.
